The M2K PCB combines a very low weight (9.0 grams with lens and wheel; the main PCB with lens is just 5.8 grams), high performance (8,000 hertz capable MCU; zero debouncing lag for all switches) and an open-source firmware (which is pre-installed on the PCB).
Included in the price: the M2K cable, also known as the best non-Paracord gaming mouse cable (very flexible and yet very robust).
In short: the only thing that is missing when you order the M2K PCB with cable is a mouse shell.
PCB specs:
- PCB itself: 1.0 mm FR4 with 4 layers and ENIG finish
- Modularity: Wheel encoder and middle mouse button switch sit on a separate PCB that can be connected to the main PCB with a so-called Board-to-Board connector (Molex SlimStack)
- Switches: D2F-01F
- Encoder: Alps EC10E1220501
- MCU: STM32F7 series (216 MHz Cortex-M7 core)
- Firmware: open-source (more information about the M2K firmware here; GitHub link to the M2K firmware here)
- Sensor: PixArt 3360
- Encoder: Alps EC10E1220501
- All seven screws (two of those T4 Torx, five of those T5 Torx) are included. The T4 Torx screws are meant for the two metal thingies that are located below the switches for the left and right mouse button.
- Cable receptacle: Molex Pico-Lock (pairs with Molex 5040510401 which in turn pairs with Molex 5040520298). Color code for the cable: the black conductor (ground) should be inserted into the Molex receptacle so that it is the one closest to the sensor, followed by yellow (D+), white (D-) and red (5V). If you want to use a different cable see the following guide by kyleirelandtech on how to install an Enncoo AirCord in an M2K.
- The wheel (ceramic coated PC) is included
- Lens is included
- Picture of broken out MCU pins (for modding purposes)
- Picture of broken out pins for the wheel and middle mouse button (for modding purposes)
- 3D file of the M2K PCB with a wheel inserted into the encoder
- PixArt in the 3360 datasheet recommends a «Distance from Lens Reference Plane to Tracking Surface» of at least 2.2 mm, 2.6 mm at most with the typical value being 2.4 mm. See this drawing.
Cable specs:
- Producer of the raw cable: Tensility (link to the datasheet)
- Diameter: 2.5 mm
- Weight per meter: 8.8 grams
- Cable has a USB A plug on the one end and is crimped on the other end (crimps used: Molex 5040520298; no worries: the plug, Molex 5040510401, is also included)
