About Zaunkoenig

Zaunkoenig was founded in 2017, near Stuttgart, Germany, with the sole focus to make the worlds best gaming mice.

In September of 2019 we launched our first product, the Zaunkoenig M1K, on Kickstarter. With a weight of 23 grams the M1K was the worlds lightest gaming mouse, and it was not even close.

The M1K famously only had two buttons, but no side buttons and no wheel. The M1K is a great example for what Zaunkoenig stands for: stripping away the unnecessary parts of a gaming mouse and then optimizing the hell out of the remaining parts.

To us the best possible gaming mouse is two things: it is as light as possible and it is designed for Fingertip Grip only.

The best possible gaming mouse is as light as possible

The optimal weight for a gaming mouse is zero grams. In order to get as close as possible to zero grams we strip away features that are non-essential in our eyes; side buttons for example.

The parts of a gaming mouse that we deem essential then are optimized so that they weigh as little as possible. Our electronics (the printed circuit boards) are extremely small and we use a carbon fiber shell to save additional weight, among other things.

In order to make the weight of our gaming mice as low as possible we also stay away from wireless gaming mice by the way. A typical battery for a gaming mouse weighs around five grams, which is a lot if the rest of the mouse weighs around 20 grams.

What is worse is that those five grams occupy a very small volume, throwing off the weight balance of your gaming mouse.

The best possible gaming mouse is designed for Fingertip Grip only

For those who do not know what a Fingertip Grip gaming mouse is: it is a mouse that is controlled with just your fingers. And that is radically different from conventional gaming mice, which are designed to be held in place with parts of your palm.

It sounds kind of obvious but we think that if you want to reach your highest aim potential you should stop treating your gaming mouse as some sort of «relax chair» for your hand; and start treating your gaming mouse like a precision tool.

Hence we do not collect your data. We do not even analyze what percentage of website visitors reads our blog articles. Instead we put all the time that we save by not collecting and analyzing your data into making the best damn gaming mice we possibly can.
